Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Hand multimeter -V.A.G 1526 A-
  W00-0431
t  Adapter set -V.A.G. 1594 C-
Check conditions:
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 V
l  Ignition off
l  Direct diesel injection control unit -J248-, correct
l  The fuses in the battery fuse holder should work correctly.
Checking process
–  Extract the fuel temperature sender switch -G62- Components' fitting locations, → Anchor.
  Note!
On removing the connector “engine cold” is simulated. When ignition is connected, the corresponding preheating process will be carried out.
–  Extract the connections from pre-heating elements.
–  Connect multimeter to measure voltage between a pre-heating element contact and vehicle earth.
–  Switch on ignition. It should indicate for 20 seconds approx. battery voltage
–  If no voltage is present:
–  Interrogate the fault memory of the new engine control unit and erase the fault memory if necessary -VAS 5051-, Vehicle self-diagnosis, → Chapter
