Test sequence
Test sequence
–  Remove the engine protection along with the air filter (engine identification letters AUB, BBY, BBZ, BKY) → Chapter.

–  Remove the spark plugs together with the ignition cable guide.
   
–  Remove the 4-pin connector from the Ignition transformer -N152--arrow-.
Engine code letters BBY, BBZ, BKY, BXW
  N28-0102
–  Remove the 4-pin connectors from the ignition transformers -arrows-.
–  Removing ignition coils. To do so, use the extractor -T10094-.
–  Remove the air duct from the camshaft housing.
Continued for all vehicles
–  Remove all glow plugs using wrench -T20175-.

–  Remove the fuse for the injector units from the fuse holder. Fuses → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
–  Ask another mechanic to depress accelerator to the maximum, so that the throttle is totally open.
–  Check compression with compression tester -VAG 1381- or -VAG 1763-

–  Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression values:
t  New: 10...15 bar
t  Wear limit: 7 bar
t  Tolerable difference between all cylinders: 3 bar
–  Tighten spark plugs with spark plug spanner -T20175- to 30 Nm.
Continue installation following reverse order for removing.
–  Interrogate and erase fault memory of engine control unit → Chapter.
