Check the tool and equipment equivalence table according to the applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Tightening torque -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Hydraulic jack -VAG 1383A-, see equivalent → Anchor
Removal:
–  Note safety precautions before starting work → Chapter
–  With the ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Extract the securing bolt of the fuel tank cap unit and remove the unit.
–  Drain fuel tank and clean the area around the fuel filler neck → Chapter.
–  Move rear seat forward.
–  Remove fuel delivery unit cap located beneath rear seat.

–  Disconnect the 5-pin connector -1- from the flange.
–  Remove rear right-hand side wheel.
–  Remove rear right-hand side wheel housing liner. → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. Gr.66

–  Remove the pressure retention valve -1- and the vent pipe -2- (press safety ring).

–  Remove the securing bolt -arrow-.
–  Separate the fuel inlet funnel from the bodywork.
–  Remove from body all fixings from rear part of exhaust system. Then suspend the exhaust system, displaced downwards slightly, from the bodywork using a wire.
–  Removing the rear axle: → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. Gr.42
  WARNING
Fuel supply pipes are pressurised. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then eliminate the pressure by carefully separating the pipe.

–  Disconnect the supply hose -1- (black) and the breather hose -2- (white) at the connecting point.
–  Remove the support straps and the securing bolts. During this operation, support the fuel tank with the engine and gearbox crane -V.A.G 1383 A-.
–  Removing fuel tank.
Fitting .
Fit in reverse order from removal, remembering the following:
t  Breather and fuel hoses are to be installed kink-free.
t  Secure hoses with spring-clips.
t  Do not interchange supply and return hose (return hose blue or blue markings, supply hose black).

t  Check the connections on the active carbon filter.
t  Fit rear axle → Running gear; Rep. Gr.42
  Note
t  After installing fuel gauge sender, check that the supply, return and breather pipes are still clipped onto the fuel tank.
t  After replacing (fitting) the fuel tank, the fuel supply system should be bled → Chapter
