Checking exhaust system for leaks > < Front exhaust pipe with catalytic converters: Removing and installing

Proceed as follows:
l  The exhaust system must be installed cold.
l  Tightening torques → Chapter
   
–  Release the bolted connectors -3 and 4- from the front clamp-1-.
–  Align the front clamp -1- with mark -A- on the exhaust pipe before the catalytic converter -2- (the -arrow- shows the driving direction).
l  Dimension -a- = 5 mm
l  The bolted connectors must be on the right and must not project over the lower edge of the clamp.
–  Manually tighten the front bolted connector -3- on the clamp.

–  Move the exhaust system forwards -arrow-, to create an initial tension on the support element of the rear silencer of -a- = 15 to 17 mm.

–  From this position, tighten the bolted connectors -3and 4- evenly on the clamp to torque 25 Nm.

Installation position of clamps
–  Install clamp so that end of bolt -arrow- does not extend beyond lower edge of clamp.
l  Bolted connection must point to the right.

Align the end pipes:
–  Align the end tubes so that the left hand side separation -a- is identical to the right hand side -a-.
–  At the same time, a separation -b- between the bumper indentation and the end tubes.
t  Dimension b = minimum 21 mm
–  It may be necessary to release the rear silencer fastening in order to align the end tubes.
