Fuel tank, vehicles with front wheel drive: Removing and installing Removing → Anchor. Installing → Anchor. Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench (5 - 50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Hydraulic jack -SAT 1040-, see equivalent → Anchor Removing –  Observe the safety precautions before starting work → Chapter . –  Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter. –  If necessary, drain the tank → Chapter. –  Remove the rear seat bench → bodywork - interior fitting work; Rep. gr.72.

–  Remove the cover -1- of the fuel delivery unit together with the fuel pump control unit -J538--2-.

–  Separate the connector -arrow- from the flange. –  Remove right rear wheel. –  Remove the rear right-hand wheel housing moulding → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.50. –  Loosen the securing bolt of the fuel tank cap unit, and remove the unit → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.55.

–  Detach filler pipe from body -1-. –  Hang out the line -2- on the filler pipe. –  Remove the centre and rear silencer. –  Remove the heat shield of the centre and rear silencer.   WARNING Fuel supply line is pressurised. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then eliminate the pressure by carefully separating the pipe.   Note Press in safety ring to release fuel lines.

–  Disconnect the breather pipe -1- (white) and the fuel pipe -2- (black) at their connections.

–  Remove the support straps and the securing bolts. During this operation, support the fuel tank with the hydraulic jack -SAT 1040-. –  Lower the fuel tank. Installing Installation is carried out in reverse order. The following should be taken into account: t  Install breather and fuel lines free of kinks. t  Do not interchange supply and return hose (return hose blue or blue markings, supply hose black). t  Ensure that line connections are tight. t  Check the earth connection between fuel tank/bodywork at the filler neck. t  If the fuel delivery unit has been replaced, the engine control unit must be adapted to the fuel pump → Vehicle diagnostic tester„Guided function“. Tightening torques:
