Test intake manifold change-over function
Test intake manifold change-over function
This inspection must be performed when the drive speed is insufficient. This means that the acceleration is inadequate or the vehicle reacts delayed.
Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Manual vacuum pump -VAS 6213-, see equivalency → Anchor
Test condition
t  The intake manifold flap valve -N316- has been checked with vehicle diagnostic system.
Perform the following checks if the valve for the intake manifold flap -N316- is okay:
–  Carefully pull off engine cover panel.
–  Start engine and run at idling speed.
–  Have a second mechanic rev. up engine quickly (short burst of throttle). Observe vacuum actuating unit for intake manifold change-over.

l  The vacuum actuating unit must function -arrow-.
l  If the change-over does not operate as described:
l  Check vacuum system for leaks.
l  Check ease of movement of the switching mechanism. For this purpose, operate the linkage by hand.
l  Check proper connection of vacuum lines.
l  Check that the vacuum hoses are in good condition (porosity).
  A24-10580
l  Remove the valve for the intake manifold flap -N316--2- from the vacuum hose -1- to the actuator for the valve for the intake manifold flap -N316-.
  A24-10580
l  Move the sliding ring -1- of the manual vacuum pump -VAS 6213- in position -A- for "underpressure".
  N24-10282
l  Connect the hand vacuum pump -VAS 6213- to the actuator for the intake manifold flap valve -N316-.
l  Operate hand vacuum pump -VAS 6213- several times.
l  The vacuum actuator element -arrows- should move.
l  If the actuator element does not move, it must be replaced.
