Removing and installing thermostat housing and coolant pipe (rear) t  Removing → Anchor t  Installing → Anchor Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Pliers for spring-loaded band-type clamps -VAS 6499-, see equivalent → Anchor Removing –  Drain coolant → Chapter. Altea - Altea XL - Leon –  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter. –  Remove battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.

–  Remove bolts -arrows- and take out battery mounting -1- . Ibiza –  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter. –  Remove battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27. –  Remove the battery holder → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27

Continued for all vehicles –  Release hose clips -arrows- and detach coolant hoses. –  Lay the wiring harness -1- free and set aside.

–  Disconnect connector -2- from coolant temperature sensor -G62-. –  Remove the clip -3-. –  Unscrew the bolts -arrows- and press the holder -1- to one side. –  Detach the thermostat housing from the rear coolant pipe.

–  Remove the pipe line from the back of the coolant pipe, loosen the hose clip -arrow- for this purpose.

–  Detach coolant pipe -1- (rear) from cylinder block -3-. Installing l  Tightening torques → Chapter   Note t  Renew the seal, gaskets and O-ring -2-. t  Secure hose unions with hose clamps the same as those of the series → Electronic parts catalogue. –  Clean and smoothen the sealing surfaces. –  Lubricate the seal with coolant.

–  After securing the thermostat housing, the coolant pipe must be guided up to the end of the housing and only then insert the retaining clip -arrow-. –  Check that coolant pipe is firmly secured in thermostat housing. The remaining installation steps are carried out in reverse sequence - note the following points: –  Install the battery socket and battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27. –  Install the air filter housing. –  Check coolant level → Chapter.
