Safety precautions
To prevent injuries to persons and/or damage to the fuel injection and ignition system, the following must be noted:
t  Do not touch or disconnect ignition cables when the engine is running or being turned at starter speed.
t  The ignition must be switched off before connecting or disconnecting injection or ignition system wiring or tester cables.
Please note the following if test equipment has to be used during a test drive:
t  Test and measuring instruments must always be secured to the rear seat and operated by a second person from this location.
If test and measuring instruments are operated from front passenger's seat and the vehicle is involved in an accident, there is a possibility that the person sitting in this seat may receive serious injuries when the airbag is triggered.
t  If the engine is to be turned at starter speed without starting:
   
–  Pull all 4-pin connectors -arrows- off ignition coils with final output stage. → Chapter
–  Remove fuse for fuel pump control unit -J538- from fuse holder. Fuse installation → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
