Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782-
t  Electric drill with plastic brush attachment
t  Protective glasses
t  Silicone sealant -D 174 003 A2-
Removing:
–  Remove noise insulation → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.50
  W00-10211
–  Unplug electrical connector -1- for oil level and oil temperature sender -G266-.
–  Drain the engine oil.
  Note
Please observe requirements for disposal.

–  Remove bolts -1 ... 20-.
–  Take off sump: if necessary loosen it by striking lightly with a rubber hammer.
Installing:
l  Tightening torques → Chapter
  Note
t  Note the expiry date of the silicone sealant.
t  The sump must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the silicone sealant.
–  Remove sealant residue from sump (top section) using a flat scraper.
  WARNING
Protect eyes against injuries.
Wear safety goggles.

–  Remove sealant residue on sump (bottom section) using rotating plastic brush or similar.
–  Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.

–  Cut off tube nozzle at upper marking (nozzle Ø: approx. 3 mm).

–  Apply the bead of silicone sealant -D 174 003 A2- to the clean sealing surface of the sump (bottom section), as illustrated.
  Note
t  The sump must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the silicone sealant.
t  The bead of sealant must not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant can enter the sump and obstruct the strainer in the oil intake pipe.
t  Thickness of the sealant grub: 2 ... 3 mm

–  Fit bottom part of sump straightaway and tighten bolts -1 to 20- in 3 stages as follows:
1 - Tighten bolts by hand
2 - When tightening bolts, apply 8 Nm torque
3 - Turn bolts 45° further.
  Note
Starting can be carried out 30 minutes after applying the sealant to the oil sump. Only then should the engine be refilled with oil.
–  Replenish engine oil, oil capacities → Chapter.
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling sequence.
