Removing and installing high-pressure pump
Removing and installing high-pressure pump
  WARNING
The fuel system is pressurised. The pressure in the high-pressure components of the injection system must be reduced to a residual pressure prior to opening.
High pressure system pressure reduction → Chapter.
  Note
t  The high-pressure pump should only be removed and installed when the engine is cold.
t  When installing the high-pressure fuel pump, it is essential to ensure that no dirt enters the fuel system.
t  Use a rag to wipe away any fuel which leaks out.
t  The O-ring and the connecting support must always be renewed.
t  Always ensure that the high-pressure fuel pipes are free of tension when tightening the connections.
Removing:
–  Remove the engine cover → Chapter
   
–  Unplug electrical connector -2- on fuel pressure regulating valve -N276-.

–  Open both fuel pipes -arrows-.

–  Unscrew 2 bolts -arrows-.
–  Carefully take out the high-pressure fuel pump. Sometimes the roller tappet can hang in the cylinder head.
Installing:
  Note
t  The roller tappet must be positioned at the lowest point when installing the high-pressure pump.
t  If the old high-pressure pump is re-installed, or if a used pump is installed, the connecting piece for the fuel supply pipe (high-pressure section of the system) must be renewed. High-pressure pump - assembly overview → Item.
t  Tightening torques → Chapter
–  Renew O-ring for high-pressure pump.
–  Fit roller tappet in exhauster pump (check roller tappet for damage first).
–  Turn crankshaft until roller tappet is positioned at lowest point.
–  Insert high-pressure pump into vacuum pump.
–  Tighten bolts hand-tight.
–  Renew connecting piece at high-pressure pump.
–  Now tighten bolts in diagonal sequence to specified torque.
–  Tighten union nut on fuel supply pipe hand-tight, »align tension-free« and then tighten.

–  Re-connect electrical connector -2- for fuel pressure regulating valve -N276-.
–  Put back fuse if it has been removed.
  Note
Check that the fuel system is completely sealed.
