Installation

Before fitting, apply lubricant from the repair kit to the steering rack → Parts Catalogue.

Caution

Never use any other type of lubricant!

For this, rotate the steering in both directions all the way.

For increased clarity, the illustration shows a steering box removed .

–	Lubricate the steering rack on the cogged side -A- and on the side of the pressure element, with grease → Parts Catalogue.

–	Turn steering wheel to straight-ahead position.

–	Insert the new clamps and the dustguard in the tie rod.

–	Bolt the tie rod up to the marked point made prior to removing.

–	Tighten the counter nut -3- to the tightening torque, at the same time immobilising the ball joint -2-.

–	Slide the dustguard -2- on the tie rod -1- as shown in the diagram.

–	Secure spring-type hose clip onto rubber boot using hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1275-.

–	Slide the dustguard on the steering housing.

–	Fasten the new clamp using the Pliers for the steering box -VAS 6199- as shown in the diagram.

Perform remaining installation in reverse order of removal.

¹⁾	Replace after each removal

²⁾	Before fitting, apply LOCTITE -5910- to the thread

After assembly align the vehicle axles.

–	Check wheel alignment → Chapter

–	Carry out the basic setting of the steering wheel angle sender -G85- using the „Guided fault finding“ of the Vehicle diagnosis testing and information system - VAS 505X-.

–	Carry out the basic setting of the steering using the „Guided fault finding“ of the Vehicle diagnosis testing and information system -VAS 505X-.
