Removal:
Removal:
–  Turn steering wheel to straight-ahead position.
–  Clean the power steering casing outside around the dust guards.
   
–  Loosen the nut -3- immobilising the ball joint -2-.
–  Remove front wheel.
–  Loosen nut on track rod ball joint but do not remove completely.
Leave nut screwed several turns onto track rod ball joint shank to protect thread.

–  Release the suspension ball joint from the steering knuckle with the extractor -3287 A- and now remove the nut.
–  Remove the spring-type clip (item -1- Fig. N44-10005 → Anchor) Dust guard with pliers -V.A.G 1275- and push toward the tie rod.
–  Remove the clamp and take out the steering housing dustguard.

–  Unscrew the tie rod of the steering rack using Insert for e/c 38 spanner -V.A.G 1923-.
  Note
t  Renew complete steering box if there are signs of corrosion, damage, wear or dirt on the steering rack.
t  The complete steering box must also be renewed if there is no visible lubricating film on the steering rack.
