Verification of the hydraulic pump feed pressure
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hose clamps -U-30042-
t  Power steering verification -V.A.G 1402-
t  Adaptor -V.A.G 1402/2-
t  Adaptor -V.A.G 1402/3-
t  Hose of the adapter set -V.A.G 1402/6-
t  Torque wrench -SAT 8010-

Test requirements
l  Correct tension of the V-belt
l  There are no leaks in the steering system
l  Hoses/ tubes neither bent nor choked
Test sequence
–  Observe the rules for cleaning before beginning fitting work → Chapter
–  Cut off the suction tube using the pincer -U-30042-.
–  Unscrew the pressure tube from the pump.

–  Connect the pressure tester to the pump with an adaptor.
1 - Join (aluminium).
2 - Adaptor -V.A.G 1402/3-
3 - Adapter set hose -1402/6-
4 - Hollow bolt (vehicles with air conditioning)
5 - Adaptor -V.A.G 1402/2-
6 - Power steering verification -V.A.G 1402-
–  Open the shut off valve of the tester.
–  Remove the pincers for the hoses -U-30042- from the suction tube.
–  Start the engine and, if necessary, add more liquid to the deposit.
–  Close the shut off valve when the engine is idling (not more than five seconds), read the pressure.
Theoretical values
Petrol engine: 68....76 bar.
Diesel engine: 85....95 bar.
  Note
t  If they are not reached, or exceeded, change the hydraulic pump → Chapterfor the power steering.
t  If there is a shortage of liquid in the reservoir, the steering system should always be checked for leaks
t  If the steering knuckle shows a leak, then the hoses and connections must be checked and, if necessary tightened again and cleaned until dry.
t  If there were leaks in the sealing ring of the steering knuckle or in the join of the steering rack on the steering casing, the steering box must be replaced → Chapter, removing and fitting the power steering box
t  To check the seal of the steering rack, the hook of the dust guard must be opened and moved to one side.
