Leaking shock absorbers
Leaking shock absorbers
Minor leaks (seepage) in the piston rod seals are not justification for changing a shock absorber.

If oil stains are visible (mat, dull, dried by dust) and do not extend further than the upper seal of the shock absorber (cylinder rod joint) to the inner spring seat -arrow-, the shock absorber is considered to be in good condition.
  Note
A minor oil leak actually provides the advantage of lubricating the join ring and increases the working life. This applies to both the shock absorbers of the front and the rear axles.
