Repairing rear wheel bearing

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Thrust plate -40 - 105-

t	Thrust plate -3074-

t	Assembly tool -3253-

t	Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-

t	Engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- with universal gearbox support -V.A.G 1359/2-

t	-3-Puller -Kukko 204/2-

1 -	Wheel bolt

q	Modified wheel bolt → Chapter

2 -	Wheel bolt

q	Modified wheel bolt → Chapter

3 -	Hexagon socket head bolt

q

10 Nm

4 -	Brake disc

5 -	Hexagon bolt

q	Renew each time after removing.

Specified torque on vehicles with four-wheel drive:

q	150 Nm and turn 90° further.

q	Four wheel drive vehicles, loosen and tighten only when vehicle is standing on its wheels (danger of accident)

Hub

q	Pulling out → Fig..

q	Pulling off inner race → Fig..

q	Pulling in → Fig..

q	Press in and out using -V.A.G 1459 B- → Chapter.

Circlip

q	Ensure proper seating.

9 -	Wheel bearing

q	Pulling out → Fig..

q	Renew, as it is destroyed during pressing out.

q	Pulling in → Fig..

q	Press in and out using -V.A.G 1459 B- → Chapter.

10 -	Hexagon bolt

10 Nm

11 -	Cover plate

12 -	Tensioning disc rotor

q	Only for vehicles with front-wheel drive.

13 -	Hexagon nut

q	Self-locking

q	Only for vehicles with front-wheel drive

q	Always renew after removing

14 -	Drive shaft

q	Removing and installing → Chapter.

15 -	Suspension link

16 -	ABS speed sensor

q	Before inserting sensor, clean fitting hole's inner surface and coat with lubricating paste -G 000 650-.

17 -	Hexagon socket head bolt

18 -	Hexagon bolt

20 -	Brake caliper

Pulling wheel hub out from wishbone   Note Place engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383/A- underneath (danger of accident due to falling parts when pulling out the wheel hub). 1 -  -3253/1- 2 -  -3253/2- 3 -  -3253/4- 4 -  -3253/6- 5 -  -3253/3- 6 -  -3253/5- –  Remove circlip for wheel bearing.

Pulling wheel bearing out from wishbone   Note t  Place engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383/A- underneath (danger of accident due to falling parts when pressing out the wheel hub). t  The thrust plate -3074- is a component of the equipment group A-2. Therefore this tool will not be available in every workshop and may need to be ordered from Matra Werke.

Pulling bearing race out of hub Use only puller with clamp clip, e.g. -A--Kukko 204-2- (commercially available).

Pulling wheel bearing into wishbone –  Coat hole for wheel bearing with Molybdenum grease. –  Pull wheel bearing in onto stop. –  Insert circlip with long nose pliers. 1 -  -3253/8- 2 -  -3253/4- 3 -  -3253/5- 4 -  -V.A.G 1332- 5 -  -3253/3-

Pulling in wheel bearing –  Pull wheel hub in onto stop. 1 -  -3253/4- 2 -  -3253/5- 3 -  -3253/3- 4 -  -V.A.G 1332-   Note The thrust plate -3074- is a component of the equipment group A-2. Therefore this tool will not be available in every workshop and may need to be ordered from Matra Werke.
