| What causes the ripples on the sidewall? |
| To reduce weight, the sidewalls of modern radial tyres with metal frame usually only have one layer. |
| Before assembly, when the tyre is being shaped, the pieces of the sidewall are made up of longitudinal bands. These then overlap on the contact points of the materials. This produces small irregularities and ripples at the overlap zones. Due to the construction type using only one layer, these overlaps can be more easily observed from the outside. |
