With certain rim/tyre combinations on certain vehicle models it is only permissible to install special snow chains with small chain links (9 mm or 7 mm) (this dimension also applies for the chain lock). Information on this is given in the table with technical data in these guidelines → Chapter. |
Note The maximum legally permitted speed for driving with snow chains is 50 km/h. |
It is necessary to remove the chains on snow-free roads, because the driving characteristics are poorer and the wear to the chains and tyres is greater. |
Instructions for installing snow chains |
Caution t
| Before installing snow chains check whether sufficient space is available in the wheel well. |
t
| After installing snow chains check the space in the wheel well again. |
|
It may necessary to remove caked snow and ice. |
Install chains and tension, retention after driving a short distance. |
„Practice installing“ chains in dry conditions before starting a trip to facilitate actual installation when nervous and cold |
Note Observe the care and maintenance instructions of the snow chain manufacturer. |
Special snow chain versions |
Special versions of snow chains are available which provide an additional slip-resistant surface across the read by using different elements. |
The contact surface to the pavement consists of highly resistant fibres woven together. Tyres equipped with this system have the same traction as tyres with snow chains. |
