Official designation of model types
All passenger cars registered for highway operation in Spain and European Union (EU) member of countries require a homologation for issue of the vehicle registration documents.
In the European union (EU) member countries this procedure was not used for issue of registration documents for the vehicle previously. Until 31.12.1997, each member state was entitled to issue its own national type approvals according to its own procedures.
→ ChapterSince 01.01.1998 all passenger vehicles licensed for road use within the European Union must possess type approval according to EU guidelines. Examples of exceptions of vehicles approved for operation in Germany with individual approval certificate.
In this way the same directives are applicable to all automobile manufacturers. This makes trading across borders of the countries within the EU easier.
