Removing and installing steering column switch, vehicles 06.00 ►   Note! t  If the vehicle has a security-coded radio, obtain the anti-theft code from customer before disconnecting the battery. t  To disconnect and reconnect the battery, the procedure described in the workshop manual should be strictly adhered to → Chapter. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331- Removing: –  Remove driver side airbag unit → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.69.

–  Remove multi-point socket head bolt -2-. –  Position steering wheel -1- in central position (wheels straight ahead). –  Pull steering wheel -1- off steering column.

–  Remove screws -1-, -2- and -3-. –  Remove lower part of steering column switch trim.

–  Remove upper part of steering column switch trim -1-.

–  Disconnect connector -1-. –  Release retainers -arrows- and pull coil connector with slip ring off steering column switch.

–  Remove steering column switch clamping bolt -arrow- and remove steering column switch. Installing:

If steering column switch was removed, distance -a- between steering wheel and coil connector housing must be reset. 1 -  Steering wheel 2 -  Coil connector housing 3 -  Steering column switch clamping bolt a -  approx. 2.5 mm –  Install steering column switch.

–  Fit steering wheel so that the mark -arrow A- on steering wheel aligns with mark -arrow B- on steering column. –  Install multi-point socket head bolt and tighten. –  Position steering column switch so that it is horizontal.

–  Now set gap -a- to approx. 2.5 mm. –  Tighten clamping bolt -3-. –  Remove steering wheel again.

–  Install upper part of steering column switch trim -1-. –  Install lower part of steering column switch trim. –  Install height and reach adjustment handle, if necessary.

–  Install screws -1-, -2- and -3-. –  Install steering wheel. –  Check head of multi-point socket head bolt. A multi-point socket head bolt which already has five punch marks on head must be renewed! –  Coat multi-point socket head bolt with locking fluid. –  Install multi-point socket head bolt and tighten. Torque setting: 50 Nm. –  Drive a punch mark into head of multi-point socket head bolt. –  Install driver side airbag unit → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.69.
