Removing and installing electric socket or cigarette lighter
Removing and installing electric socket or cigarette lighter
  Note
Removal and installation work is the same for all sockets and will therefore only be described for a socket for the cigarette lighter.
  Caution
When disassembling the socket using the extractor T 40148, deviations in quality to the bracket of the clamping sleeve may result when too much pressure is applied.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Extractor -T40148-
Removing:
–  In the case described, remove the cigarette lighter, the cigarette lighter dummy, etc. from the socket.
  Note
For illustration purposes the socket in the figure is shown after removal.
  Caution
The socket or the clamping sleeves can be influenced.
Take care for the correct fitting of the extractor otherwise the retaining tabs of the clamping sleeve will not engage.

–  Push the extractor -arrow- into the socket until the retaining tags -1- engage in the recess -2-.

–  Turn knurled wheel -3- clockwise to end stop.
l  The piston -2- moves upwards, the locking tag -1- in the exztractor -T40148- opens -arrows- and fixes itself to the socket in this way.

–  Pull the spindle -1- in the -direction of the arrow-.
–  Pull out the 12 V electric socket
  Caution
When using the thrust piece, ensure that no surrounding components are damaged.
When pulling out the electric socket, observe the length of the cable.
The electric cables for the socket can be influenced.
–  Remove the connector from the socket.
  Note
Depending on the space requirement, the vehicles are equipped with various electric sockets and cigarette lighter sockets. They differ in length and have different electrical connections. In the case of electric sockets or cigarette lighter sockets with a wiring tail, it may be necessary to perform additional work in order to gain access to the connector.

–  Separate the extracter -T40148- from the 12 V electric socket.
–  Disengage the retainer tabs of the extractor by pressing the spindle -1- in -the direction of arrow B-. Then the extractor -2- must be unlocked by briefly turning it anticlockwise -arrow A-. Remove the extractor from the electric socket.
  Note
Take care that the locking tag of the extractor is not spread.
  Caution
The cigarette lighter might be ejected out of the socket after the heating phase.
By inserting the extractor, the retaining springs of the electric socket are pressed apart and the retaining momentum is reduced.
After removing the retaining spring from the electric socket, carefully press them together again and check if the cigarette lighter remains in its removal position after the heating procedure.

–  Carefully press the retaining springs of the electric socket together -arrows-.
–  Check if the cigarette lighter,remains in its removal position after the heating procedure and is not catapulted into the vehicle compartment.
Installing:
Installation is carried out in reverse order.
