Connecting up the vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 and selecting the control unit for engine electronics
Connecting up the vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- and selecting the control unit for engine electronics
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-
t  Diagnostic cable -V.A.G 1551/3, 3A, 3B oder 3C-
Test conditions
Battery voltage at least 11.5 volts
Earth connection to engine and gearbox O.K.
Fuses must be OK in compliance with the current flow diagram.
Procedure
The connector is located behind the storage area on the driver's side.
–  Unclip cover and remove downward.
   
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with corresponding diagnostic cable.
Once the vehicle system tester has been connected:
–  Switch on the ignition or start → Chapter the engine depending on the function desired.
  Note
t  If the read-outs as shown in the work sequence are not displayed: → Operating instructions of the vehicle system tester.
t  If because of an input error “data transfer fault” is displayed, remove the cable from the vehicle system tester, re-connect and repeat the steps.

Operate the vehicle system tester by referring to the read-out on the display:
–  Select the address word 17“Engine electronics” and confirm the entry with Q.

The vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552 - displays the control unit identifications, e. g.:
t  074906033 = Part No. of the control unit (for current control unit version see Catalogue of Original Parts)
t  1.4 ltr. = engine displacement
t  SIMOS 3PB = System designation
t  CC = Cruise control system activated (only on vehicles with cruise control system)
t  HS = manual gearbox
t  0G41 = Software number
t  Coding 00071 = Coding of the control unit
t  WSC XXXXX = Workshop code
