Idle testing
  Note
t  The idling speed, ignition point and CO content are only measured as they cannot be adjusted.
t  The idling speed is set to nominal value by the throttle valve positioner together with the DLS function.
t  The CO content is set to nominal value by the lambda control. Faults in the lambda control are detected by the self-diagnostic system and stored in the fault memory.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552 - with cable -V.A.G 1551/3, 3A, 3B, 3C-
Test conditions
l  The exhaust system between the cylinder head and the catalyst must be tight.
l  Coolant temperature at least 80°C → Chapter display group 004, display block 3.
l  All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window heater, must be switched off.
l  If vehicle is equipped with air conditioning, this must also be switched off.
l  On vehicles with an automatic gearbox the selector lever must be in position “P” or “N”.
Test sequence
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-. Start engine and select address word 01 “Engine electronics” → Chapter.
–  Interrogate fault memory, rectify any faults and then erase the fault memory → Chapter.
Testing idling speed
–  Select function 08 “Read measured value block” and display group 056.

–  Check the operating condition in indicator field 4.
Specified value: 00000 (meaning → Chapter).
–  Check nominal idling speed in display field 2.
Specified value:
Vehicles with engine identification characters AUA: 750 rpm
Vehicles with engine identification characters BBY, BKY: 760 rpm
Vehicles with engine identification characters BUD: 770 rpm
Vehicles with automatic gearbox (engine identification characters AUA, BBY): 680 rpm
Vehicles with automatic gearbox (engine identification characters BKY): 670 rpm
Vehicles with engine identification characters AUB: 840 rpm
Vehicles with engine identification characters BBZ: 680 rpm
  Note
The idling speed of the engine is increased if the battery is heavily discharged or the engine is extremely overheated.
–  Check idling speed in display field 1.
Specified value:
Vehicles with engine identification characters AUA: 650...850 rpm → Note
Vehicles with engine identification characters BBY, BKY: 660...860 rpm → Note
Vehicles with engine identification characters BUD: 670...870 rpm → Note
Vehicles with automatic gearbox (engine identification characters AUA, BBY): 580...780 rpm → Note
Vehicles with automatic gearbox (engine identification characters BKY): 570...770 rpm → Note
Vehicles with engine identification characters AUB: 740...940 rpm → Note
Vehicles with engine identification characters BBZ: 580...780 rpm → Note
1)  Current value →  Fabia.
–  Select function 06 “End output” and switch ignition off.
If the idling speed is not reached:
–  Adapt engine control unit to throttle valve control unit → Chapter.
–  Perform a test drive.
–  Interrogate the fault memory on the control unit again.
–  Repeat idling speed test.
If the nominal values are again not reached:
–  Testing throttle valve control unit → Chapter
–  Testing the engine operating conditions → Chapter
–  Inspect intake system for leaks → Chapter.
