Testing injection rate
Testing injection rate
Test conditions
l  The fuel pressure must be OK, test → Chapter
l  Injection valves installed in the fuel distributor and fuel lines connected.
l  Fuel temperature 15...20°C, fuel must be according to the valid standards.

–  Connect a contact of the injection valve on the engine mass using adapter cables from the mesuring tool set.
–  Connect the other contact of the injection valve with the adapter cable to the remote control, e.g -V.A.G 1348/3A- with the adapter cable, e.g. -V.A.G 1348/3-2-.
–  Connect alligator clip to the battery (+).
  Note
When testing the injection rate also check the jet formation. The jet formation must be the same for all the injection valves of the engine.

–  Insert injector to be tested in a measuring glass.
–  Activate the remote control -V.A.G 1348/3 A- for 30 seconds.
–  Put the measuring glass with the injected fuel in a safe place.
–  Perform the measurement in sequence on all the injection valves. While doing so, use additional measuring glasses.
–  After all the injection valves have been operated, place all the measuring glasses on a flat surface and compare the quantities of fuel injected.
  Note
The injection rate must be the same for all injection valves.
Specified value per injection valve: 85...99 ml
If the measured value is outside the range of the nominal value:
–  Replace the faulty injector → Chapter.
–  Test new injection valve → Chapter.
After the test
The installation of the fuel distributor with the injection valves is performed in the reverse order to the removal, while paying attention to the following:
t  Replace the O-rings on all the injectors and moisten lightly with clean engine oil.
t  Fit the fuel rail with the installed injection valves to the intake manifold and tighten screws uniformly to 10 Nm.
t  Disconnect the electrical cables installed for the test and re-insert fuse No. 61.
