Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Guide bolt -MP 1-208 -
t  Torque wrench
Test conditions
l  Engine cold
l  Pistons are not positioned at TDC
Procedure
  Note
t  Remove the new cylinder head seal from its wrapping immediately before fitting.
t  Treat the new gasket with the utmost care. Any damage will result in leaks.
t  Install new cylinder head bolts.
Removing
   
–  Follow the specified order for loosening cylinder head bolts.
Install
–  Carefully remove sealant residues. Make sure this does not cause any extended scoring or scratching (if abrasive paper is used the grain must not be less than 100).
–  Carefully remove any emery and sanding residues.

–  For centering the cylinder head screw the guide bolts out -MP 1-208- in the rear outer holes for cylinder head bolts -arrows-.
–  Fit on cylinder head gasket. The legend (spare part no.) must be legible.
–  Fit on cylinder head, insert the remaining 8 cylinder head cylinder bolts and tighten by hand.
–  Remove the locator pegs by screwing out with a bolt tightener from -MP 1-208- through the screw holes and insert the cylinder head screws.

–  Tighten cylinder head in four stages in the indicated tightening sequence:
–  1. Pre-tighten with torque wrench:
   Step I = 40 Nm
   Step II = 60 Nm
–  2. Tighten further with a rigid wrench:
   Stage III = 1/4 turn (90°)
   Stage IV = 1/4 turn (90°)
