Test compression pressure → Chapter
  Note
t  When installing an exchange cylinder head with the camshaft installed, it is necessary to oil the contact surfaces between bucket tappets and the cam track after installing the head.
t  Do not remove the plastic bases supplied as a protection for the open valves until just before fitting on the cylinder head.
t  If the cylinder head is replaced, the system must be completely filled with fresh coolant.
   
1 - Timing belt guard - top part
2 - Timing belt
q   check for wear
q   do not kink
q   removing and installing, tensioning → Chapter
3 - 20 Nm + torque a further 1/4 turn (90°)
q   replace
4 - Camshaft sprocket
q   take note of the position when installing the timing belt → Chapter
5 - 10 Nm
q   coat with -D 000 600 A2-
6 - Rear timing belt guard
7 - 5 Nm + torque a further 1/4 turn (90°)
q   replace
8 - Seal
q   replace
9 - Cap
q   Replace seal if damaged
10 - Cylinder head cover
11 - Gasket for cylinder head cover
q   replace if damaged
q   before fitting, coat contact faces of bearing cover/cylinder head cover -D 454 300 A2-.
12 - Cylinder head bolt
q   replace
q   sequence for slackening and tightening → Anchor
13 - Cylinder head
q   check for distortion → Fig.
q   installing → Anchor
q   after replacing fill entire system with fresh coolant
14 - Cylinder head gasket
q   replace
q   metal gasket
15 - 20 Nm
16 - Tensioning pulley
q   Tensioning toothed belt → Chapter
17 - 20 Nm
18 - Belt pulley
19 - V-ribbed belt
q   before removing mark running direction
q   removing and installing → Chapter
20 - Timing belt guard - bottom part

   
Inspecting the cylinder head for distortion
Max. permissible distortion: 0.05 mm
