Check selector lever position of the automatic gearbox
Check selector lever position of the automatic gearbox
  Note
The contact 22 at engine control unit is switched by the relay for starter interlock switch and reversing light -J226 - in the selector lever position P or N earth.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3-
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/22-
t  Handheld multimeter (e.g. -V.A.G 1526 A-)
t  Voltage tester (e.g. - V.A.G 1527-)
t  Measuring tool set (e.g. -V.A.G 1594 A-)
t  Current flow diagram
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3- → Chapter.
–  Start engine.
–  Select “Read measured value block” (function 08) and display group 020.

Readout on display:
Specification in display field 2: “Neutral” (selector lever in P or N)
–  Foot brake activated and engage a driving position.
Specified value: “driving position ON”

Reading measured value block 20 ->
800 rpm neutral A/C-Low Compr.OFF
–  If the readout in the display is not as described, connect the test box -V.A.G 1598/22- at wiring loom to the engine control unit → Chapter.
–  Connect voltage tester between socket 3 (terminal 30) and socket 22.
–  The voltage tester must go out when engaging a driving position.
–  Position selector lever in P or N, the voltage tester must light up.
–  If the nominal values are not reached, test the wiring of contact 22 at engine control unit to gearbox control unit for short circuit to positive and to earth as well as for open circuit → Current Flow Diagrams, Fault Finding Electrics, Fitting Locations.
–  If there is no fault in the wiring, check the multi-function switch → Automatic Gearbox; Rep. Gr.01.
