Removing
Removing
–  Remove V-ribbed belt → Chapter.
–  Remove the front right wheelhouse liner → Body Work; Rep. Gr.66.
–  Remove belt pulley with vibration damper.
–  Remove middle and bottom timing belt guard.
  WARNING
Fuel line is under pressure. Place cleaning cloths around the connection point before detaching hose connections. Reduce pressure by carefully removing the hose.

–  Disconnect the fuel-intake hose -1- and the fuel-return hose -2- from the pipes.
–  Remove pipe at top for charge air → Chapter.
–  Remove expansion reservoir and place down to the front with coolant hoses connected.
–  Remove power steering fluid reservoir, do not detach hoses however, and place down to the side.
  S10-0164
–  Fit on supporting device -MP 9-200- with adapter - MP 9-200/10-.
–  Remove engine mounts → Chapter.
  S13-0648
–  Remove pendulum support -arrows- → Chapter.
–  Remove top toothed belt guard.
–  Raise engine.
–  Remove engine console → Item, or → Item.
–  Lower engine again into normal position.
–  Position crankshaft on TDC cylinder 1.
  Note
  A37-0200
To do so turn the crankshaft until the marking on the timing belt gear of the crankshaft is located at the top and the arrow on the timing belt guard behind the gaps between the pegs on the hub is positioned opposite the pulse rotor -arrows A-.
–  Lock hub with locking pin -3359- or -MP 1-301-.
Insert locking pin through the left free slot of camshaft timing gear and into the bore hole of the cylinder head.
–  Interlock the timing belt sprocket-crankshaft with the crankshaft arrester -T10050 -.
Insert the crankshaft arrester from the front side of the timing belt sprocket into the serration and push the stud of the crankshaft arrester into the hole of the sealing flange.
  Note
t  The marking on the crankshaft timing belt sprocket and on the crankshaft arrester must be positioned opposite -arrows B-.
t  Crankshaft arrester -T10050- must never be used for securing the timing belt sprocket when slackening or tightening the central bolt!
–  Mark the direction of rotation of the timing belt with chalk or a felt-tip pen.
Engines for vehicles ? 10.01
  S13-0263
–  Insert wrench fully into the hexagon socket bolt and press in anti-clockwise direction onto the tensioning pulley -arrow- long enough until it is possible to secure the timing belt tensioning device with the locking plate -T10008-.
  Note
If the wrench is inserted only slightly, there is a risk of it dropping out.
–  Loosen the fixing nut on the tensioning roller.
  S15-0190
–  Unscrew fixing bolts -1- of timing belt tensioning device and remove the tensioning device.
–  Remove timing belt.
Engines for vehicles 11.01 ?
  S15-0191
–  Loosen bolts -arrows- of the camshaft timing gear.
  S13-0448
–  Counterhold eccentric of tensioning pulley with two-hole nut turner (e.g. -T10020-) and loosen the fixing nut -1-. After this, release the tensioning pulley by turning the eccentric anti-clockwise, until spring tension releases. Secure the loose tensioning pulley by tightening the fixing nut by hand.
–  Remove guide pulley of toothed belt → Item.
–  First of all take toothed belt off toothed belt sprocket of coolant pump and then from the other belt pulleys.
