Test needle lift sender G80 > < Check supply voltage for diesel direct injection system
Check engine speed sender G28
Check engine speed sender -G28-
The engine speed sender is a speed and reference marking sender. In case of failure, the engine stops.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Handheld multimeter (e.g. -V.A.G 1526 A-)
t  Measuring tool set (e.g. -V.A.G 1594 A-)
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/22- or -V.A.G 1598/31-
Test sequence
–  Switch off ignition.
   
–  Disconnect plug connection -1- at the injection pump.
–  Connect multimeter onto contacts 1 and 2 of the connector holder -2- to measure the resistance.
Specified value:
   1.0...1.5 kΩ, angular plug (old version)
   1.1...1.6 kΩ, rounded plug (new version)
If the specified value is not reached:
–  Replace engine speed sender -G28-.
If the specified value is reached:
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/22- or -V.A.G 1598/31- to wiring loom of engine control unit → Chapter.
–  Check el. wiring, if necessary eliminate open circuits in wiring or short-circuits according to current flow diagrams → Current flow diagrams and Fitting locations.
If the lines are not found to be faulty:
–  Replacing engine control unit -J248- → Chapter.
