Procedure
l  The exhaust system is aligned when cold.
   
–  Shop-make tool from an M10 bolt to the dimensions stated for aligning the exhaust system.
t  Dimension -X- = 4 mm
t  Dimension -Y- = 25 mm
  Note
A second person is required for aligning the exhaust system.
–  Slacken bolted connections of double clamp between catalytic converter and front silencer.

–  Insert shop-made tool through the rear hole -arrow- of the tunnel bridge, the flat side points toward the hanger pin of the exhaust system.
  Note
The exhaust system is pretensioned in the direction of travel when the shop-make tool is inserted.
–  Align middle and rear silencers horizontally:
  A26-0134
–  The hanger pin at the exhaust pipe must be parallel to the tunnel bridge (dimension -X- on left and right identical).
  Note
On vehicles with separation point → Chapter inspect horizontal position of rear silencer additionally at tail pipe.
  A26-0131
–  Position double clamp with a clearance of about 5 mm from the marking at the front exhaust pipe with catalyst and tighten evenly in horizontal position to 40 Nm.
t  Marking S -Arrow 1- for vehicles with a manual gearbox
t  Marking A -arrow 2- for vehicles with automatic gearbox
