Replacing the angle gearbox output flange gasket ring (four-wheel drive) Special tools and workshop equipment required t  Pipe section -MP3-414 (VW 516)- t  Thrust plate -MP3-467 (40 - 105)- t  Assembly stand -MP9-101- t  Thrust piece -T10049- t  Gearbox mount -T30097 (T10108)- or gearbox mount -T30012 (3221)- t  Stop plate -T30097/1 (T10108/1)- t  Two-arm extractor, e.g. -Kukko 20/10- t  Three armed extractor e.g. -Kukko 45-2- t  Tapered-roller bearing extractor -V.A.G 1582- t  Gripper -V.A.G 1582/6- t  Catch pan t  Sealing grease -G 052 128 A1- t  Locking agent -D 000 600-   Note The gasket ring for the angle gearbox output flange can only be replaced with the angle gearbox removed. Removing –  Remove angle gearbox → Chapter.

–  Position angle gearbox onto the hole -arrow- marked with the number -4- in the gearbox mount -T30097 -. –  Then align the angle gearbox to the remaining 3 holes and fasten.    -A- Place nut M12 x 10 (4 pieces) between angle gearbox and gearbox mount.   Note

The angle gearbox can also be attached to the gearbox mount -T30012 (3221)-. To do so, place 8 nuts -A- M12 x 10 between angle gearbox and gearbox mount. –  Position the catch pan under the angle gearbox.

–  Lock the output flange for angle gearbox with stop plate -T30097/1 (T10108/1)- and two screws M10 x 30 -arrows-.   Note Use the stop plate -T30012/1A (3221/1A)- for the gearbox mount -T30012 (3221)-. –  Unscrew nut for output flange.    -A- socket wrench insert for 3/4 inch drive

–  Detach output flange with three armed extractor-A- and thrust plate -MP3-467-.    -A-three armed extractor e.g. -Kukko 45-2-   Note When pulling off the output flange the inner ring/tapered-roller bearing and the gasket ring remain on the output flange.

–  Remove inner ring/tapered-roller bearing with tapered-roller bearing extractor -V.A.G 1582- and gripper -V.A.G 1582/6- from output flange. –  Remove gasket ring from output flange. –  Clean the thread at the shank bevel gear to remove locking agent residues. Install

–  Swivel angle gearbox in such a way that the secondary shaft housing -1- points upwards. –  Place inner ring/tapered-roller bearing in the angle gearbox. –  Lightly oil new gasket ring at outer surface. –  Drive in the new gasket ring with thrust piece -T10049- up to the stop, do not twist the new gasket ring. –  Fill half the space between the sealing lip and dust lip with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-. –  Uniformly grease serration of the output flange and on the shank bevel gear with multi-purpose grease

–  Insert output flange with two-arm extractor-A-, pipe section -MP3-414- and thrust plate -MP3-467-, while doing so position the pull-off hooks of the extractor on the underside of the secondary shaft housing.    -A-Two-arm extractor, e.g. -Kukko 20/10- –  Coat thread of the new hexagon nut and the shank bevel gear with locking agent -D 000 600-.

–  Tighten new nut for output flange to 475 Nm.    -A- socket wrench insert for 3/4 inch drive –  Install angle gearbox → Chapter. –  Inspect the gear oil in the manual gearbox → Chapter.
