Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Catch pan for workshop crane e.g. - VAS 6208-
t  Pliers for spring strap clamps
t  Refractometer -T10007- or -T10007A-
Draining
  Note
t  Collect drained coolant in a clean container for reuse or proper disposal.
t  Observe the disposal instructions.
  WARNING
Hot steam may escape when the compensation bottle is opened.
t  Wear safety goggles and safety clothing, in order to avoid eye injuries and scalding.
t  Cover the cap with a cloth and open carefully.
–  Open compensation bottle.
–  Remove noise insulation → Body Work → Rep. Gr.50.
–  Place a catch pan under the radiator.
  Note
t  Depending on the components which must be removed → Chapter, the coolant from the engine cooling system, from the charge air cooling system or from both cooling systems must be drained.
t  If the coolant must be replaced, it should be drained from both cooling systems.
Drain the coolant from the engine cooling system
   
–  Open spring strap clamp -arrow- and pull off the coolant hose from the bottom radiator connection.
   If the quick coupling is disconnected at the bottom coolant fitting, a lot of coolant flows onto the shock absorber cover.

Please observe all disposal instructions!
Drain the coolant from the charge air cooling system

–  Separate the coolant hose (quick coupling) -arrow- on the bottom connection fitting of the additional radiator for coolant of charge air system.
  Note
Please observe all disposal instructions!
Top up and bleed cooling system.
Select the appropriate coolant additive from the → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts or from the list of allowed coolant additives → Octavia II.
–  In a clean reservoir mix water and coolant additive in the specified mixing ratio → Octavia II.
–  Reposition the removed coolant hose onto the relevant support.
–  Install the noise insulation → Body Work; Rep. Gr.50.
–  Switch off the air-conditioning system and the heating.
  Caution
In order to secure the refrigerating capacity of the charge air cooling system, the following work steps must absolutely be observed.
  A19-10608
–  Fill up the coolant slowly up to the top marking of the criss-crossed field (max.) on the expansion reservoir.
–  Seal expansion reservoir.
–  Start the engine and maintain the engine speed for about 3 minutes at approx. 2000 r.p.m.
–  Run engine until radiator fan -V7- starts.
  WARNING

t  Cover the cap with a cloth and open carefully.
–  Check the level of coolant when the expansion reservoir is closed and top up if necessary when the engine is cooled down.
l  When engine is at operating temperature the coolant level must be at the max. marking, when engine is cold between the min. and the max. markings.
