Test intake manifold changeover
Test intake manifold changeover
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hand vacuum pump, e.g. -VAS 6213- or -V.A.G 1390-
  Note
Observe all safety measures and notes for assembly work on the fuel, injection and ignition system as well as the rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
The test should only be carried out if there is a problem with poor torque, i.e. if insufficient elasticity or poor pulling power exists.
Test condition
l  intake manifold valve -N316- was checked → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
Test sequence
If the intake manifold valve -N316- is o.k., perform the following tests:
–  Remove engine cover with air filter and lay aside → Chapter. The plug should not be disconnected from the intake air temperature sender 2 -G299- while doing this.
–  Start engine and run in idle.

–  The speed of the engine can suddenly be increased by a 2nd person. Observe vacuum setting element for intake manifold flap
Setting element must be tightened -arrow-.
The setting element does not function as listed:
–  Check the vacuum system for tightness including the vacuum unit on the intake manifold.
–  Check smooth operation of changeover mechanism. To do so press tension rod by hand.
–  Inspect vacuum lines to see that they are connected properly.
–  Check vacuum hoses for porosity.
  S24-0687
–  Detach the vacuum hose to the setting element for the intake manifold flap -arrow- at the intake manifold flap valve -N316 --2-.
–  Connect hand vacuum pump -VAS 6213- at vacuum hose to the setting element for the intake manifold flap.
–  Position the sliding ring -1- of the hand vacuum pump -VAS 6213- in the -direction of arrow- for “vacuum”.
  S24-0727
–  Operate the hand vacuum pump -VAS 6213- several times.
l  The setting element must move.
If the vacuum setting element does not move:
–  Replace vacuum setting element.
