SUBJECT: Fuel Air Vent Pipe
Date: April 22, 1993
Subaru of America, Inc. has determined that some 1993MY Subaru Impreza Sport Wagon AWD (All Wheel Drive) models may fail to conform to
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 301, Fuel System Integrity.
Results of a 30 MPH moving barrier rear impact test indicate that some of these vehicles , may leak fuel if a vehicle should roll over after a rear end
collision. The fuel leakage may result from a crack that may occur in the fuel air vent rubber hose when it comes into contact with the fuel filler pipe.
Should such fuel leakage occur in the presence of an ignition source, a fire could result without prior warning that may endanger persons in or near the
vehicle.
To prevent this condition from occurring, it is necessary to replace the fuel air vent pipe on the fuel tank.
VEHICLES INVOLVED
Potentially affected vehicles involved are 1993MY Impreza Sport Wagon AWD models manufactured during the period of November 1992 through
March 1993 within the VIN range listed.

NOTE:
Many of the affected vehicles within the listed VIN range have been repaired while under plant control and do not require further repairs. All dealers
must verify campaign applicability prior to repair.
Involved vehicles have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Computer Listings. Computer listings contain the VIN, owner name and
address data, and are furnished to the dealers with this bulletin. Owner name and address data furnished will enable dealers to follow-up with owners
involved in this campaign. These listings may contain owner names and addresses obtained from State Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of
such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing
to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign. Any dealer not receiving a computer listing with the campaign bulletin has no involved vehicles
currently assigned.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
SOA will prepare and mail an Owner Notification letter and a two-part Recall Certification / Repair Order Form to the owners of all potentially affected
vehicles. The Owner Notification mailing is scheduled for early May. A copy of the Owner Notification Letter/Repair Order Form are included in this
bulletin.
DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY
Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time
forward in accordance with the instructions in the service procedure section of this bulletin when presented a two-part Certification/Repair Order Form
by a Subaru owner. Dealers must also promptly service all new inventory prior to delivery to the customer in accordance with TS92-004 dated, 4/7/92.
Whenever a vehicle subject to any open campaign is taken into vehicle inventory, or it is in your dealership for service in the future, you should take the
steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before reselling or releasing the vehicle.
Owners of vehicles recently sold from your vehicle inventory within the VIN range listed are to be verified for campaign applicability and contacted by
the dealer and provided with a copy of the owner letter. Arrangements should be made to make the required correction according to instructions
contained in this bulletin.
PARTS INFORMATION
Initial allocation of parts will be limited to the number of vehicles sold by your dealership. Parts shipments from your facing RDC will begin on or about
April 30, 1993.
Subsequent parts allocations will begin within one week of the first allocation. These allocations should be used to repair unsold vehicles in dealer
