Low Brake Pedal Perception
It has come to our attention that some owners have complained that their brake pedal travel is excessive or that the pedal stroke is too low. However,
upon inspection, the pedal travel was found to be within specifications. But, if the owner still persists in making this complaint, there is an adjustment
procedure that you can perform that will give the perception of a shorter brake pedal stroke or higher pedal.
Note:
If the customer's complaint involves braking PERFORMANCE, this bulletin DOES NOT apply.
PROCEDURE
1.
VERIFY BRAKE PEDAL STROKE
Check the brake pedal stroke outlined in the Bleeding Procedure located in Book 6, Section 4-4, of the 2000MY Service Manual, using the special
tool # S0A636500 - Brake Effort Gauge.
2.
MEASURE DISTANCE
Position a straight edge on the top of the brake pedal rubber (making sure to be in the center of the brake pedal), while holding the straight edge
over the top of the gas pedal. Measure the difference in height between the gas and the brake pedals (the factory specification is between 24 mm to
28 mm). This measurement is taken to be sure the procedure is done correctly.
3.
ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE
Loosen the lock nut on the brake light switch and loosen the switch so that it is not touching the brake pedal lever. Note: This operation must be
completed to prevent the Master Cylinder from being applied.
