k) Install the steering gearbox bracket bolt.
Tightening Torque: 60 N~m (6.1 kgf-m, 44.3 ft-lb)
1) Relieve steering column universal joint preload and tighten the universal joint bolts.
NOTE:
Verify the steering column tilt is adjusted to the middle of the travel before relieving universal join preload.
1) With the universal joint installed, but with the bolts still loose, grasp the universal joint (C) and move it up (toward the steering column) and
down (toward the steering gear box) a minimum often times, ending at the steering gear box side. This will eliminate any unwanted preload
on the universal joint.
NOTE:
This step is critical for a successful repair.
m) Torque the universal joint bolt on the gearbox side (B) first and then the steering column side (A).
Tightening Torque: 24 N~m (2.4 kgf-m, 17.7 ft-lb)
Note:
Always torque the universal joint bolts in this sequence; otherwise the universal joint will become preloaded.
