Disabling Air Bag System
Disabling Air Bag System
WARNING: Disabling of air bag system must be started at least 90 seconds after pressing engine switch to change ignition mode to "LOCK",
and disconnecting negative (-) cable at battery. Otherwise, system may be activated by reserve energy in SDM.
When servicing air bag system, related parts and working around air bag (inflator) module, disable air bag (inflator) modules as follows.
Disabling Procedure (Disconnecting Negative (-) Battery Cable)
1. Set front wheels in straight-ahead position.
2. Push engine switch to change ignition mode to "OFF".
3. Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
4. Wait for at least 90 seconds after performing Step 3), and then start working.
Disabling Procedure (Removing "A/B" Fuse)
WARNING:
In disabling procedure with "A/B" fuse removed, be sure to observe the followings.

As negative (-) cable of battery is not disconnected, air bag (inflator) module or seat belt pretensioner may be deployed accidentally if
drive circuit (+) causes a power short and drive circuit (-) a ground short respectively.

In case damage to vehicle wiring harness is found in prior visual check, carry out disabling procedure with negative (-) cable disconnected
from battery.
NOTE: Air bag warning light will light if "A/B" fuse is disconnected, but this is normal and DTC for air bag system will not be detected.
1. Push engine switch to change ignition mode to "OFF".
2. Remove "A/B" fuse from junction block.
3. Wait for at least 90 seconds after performing Step 2).
4. Start working and change ignition mode to ON.
Disabling Procedure (Disconnecting Negative (-) Battery Cable and Removing All Air Bag (Inflator) Modules)
1. Set front wheels in straight-ahead position.
2. Push engine switch to change ignition mode to "OFF".
3. Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
4. Wait for at least 90 seconds after performing Step 3).
5. Remove all air bag (inflator) modules and start working after.
