Oil Pump: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove oil pan as outlined under Oil Pan, Engine.
3. Remove oil pump sprocket cover.
4. Remove oil pump mounting bolts, then the oil pump.
5. Inspect oil pump as follows:

a. Inspect oil lip seal for wear or damage.
b. Inspect pump outer and inner rotors, pump housing and relief valve for excessive wear or damage.
c. Measure free length of relief spring. Free length should be 2.5 inches.
d. Using thickness gauge, check radial clearance between outer rotor and case. Radial clearance should be 0.0059 inch. If clearance exceeds

specifications, replace outer rotor, or case.

e. Using straightedge, check oil pump side clearance. Side clearance should be 0.0043 inch.

6. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten to specifications.
