Heater Core: Service and Repair

HEATER CORE

1.

Drain radiator and disconnect two water hoses from heater core.

2.

Remove instrument panel assembly as follows:
a. Disconnect battery ground cable.
b. Remove two screws from front of console, then two back lockpins from rear of console.
c. Holding shifter boot inward, remove housing and console.
d. Remove steering column covers.
e. Remove four attaching screws from instrument cluster front shroud, then the shroud.

Remove instrument cluster attaching screws and pull cluster rearward.

g. Remove speedometer, then disconnect cluster wiring harness and remove cluster.
h. Remove three inspection screw covers, then the three upper housing attaching bolts.
i.

Remove three lower housing attaching bolts located on the driver's side of the instrument panel.

j.

Remove center support dash mount.

k. Open glove box and remove two glove box lockpins, then lift glove box out of the instrument panel.
l.

Remove three instrument panel attaching screws from lower righthand side of the instrument panel.

m. Remove handle bar from righthand side of the instrument panel.
n. Remove hood release lever attaching bolt.
o. Disconnect center mounting bracket from the radio and ashtray.
p. Disconnect dash panel wiring harness and remove dash panel.

3.

Remove heater case attaching bolts.

Remove heater core from heater unit, Fig. 7.
