Transmission Position Switch/Sensor: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect transmission range switch coupler.
2. Remove transmission range switch from transmission.
CAUTION: Do not overhaul transmission range switch.
INSTALLATION
1. Shift manual shift lever to "N" range, that is, to shift selector lever to "N" range.
2. Using flat tip screwdriver, turn transmission range switch joint clockwise or counterclockwise to the position shown in figure and check that a
"click" is heard from joint at this position.
3. After installing transmission range switch to manual shift shaft, move transmission range switch by hand in arrow direction as shown in figure.
Stop at the position where a "click" from joint is heard or felt by hand then secure it.
Tightening Torque
(a): 18 Nm (1.8 kg-m, 13.0 ft. lbs.)
4. Connect coupler and clamp wire harness.
5. Upon completion of transmission range switch installation, check for its proper installation according to the following.
a. Apply parking brake and block vehicle wheels.
b. With selector lever shifted to "P" range, turn starter switch ON and check that this causes starting motor to operate.
c. Shift selector lever from "P" to "N" range, turn starter switch ON and check that this causes starting motor to operate.
d. Shift selector lever from "N" to "L" range and then back to "N" range, turn starter switch ON and check that this causes starting motor to
operate.
e. Shift selector lever from "N" to "P" range and check starting motor for operation as in step d).
f.
Check to make sure that in any range other than "P" and "N", starting motor doesn't operate even when starter switch is turned ON.
g. Turn ignition switch ON (without starting engine) and shift selector lever to "R" range. Then check that back up lights light.
6. If any check result was unsatisfactory in step 5), check and reinstall transmission range switch.
