Repair Procedure
1. Using TIS Techstream perform the "Control the VVT System (Bank 1)" Active Test with the following menus:
Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the WT System (Bank 1)
2. Use the arrows to turn the "Control the VVT System (Bank 1)" Active Test ON.
3. Does the engine run rough and/or stall?

YES - Proceed to step 4.

NO - Check the oil control valve operation.
Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) applicable model year Camry Repair Manual:
4. Remove and replace the camshaft timing gear assembly.
Refer to TIS applicable model year Camry Repair Manual:
NOTE
The timing gear MUST be in the unlocked position when installing on the camshaft. Please see step 5 for instructions to unlock the camshaft
timing gear.
