differential. Measure and note distance between the transaxle case and the side gear shaft. Using tool 09520-32012 or equivalent, drive out side
gear shaft.

8.

Using tool 09308-00010 or equivalent, replace side gear shaft oil seal, if necessary. To replace left hand seal, use tool 09223-15010 or equivalent
and a suitable hammer to tap in a new oil seal. Coat seal lip with suitable grease. To replace right hand seal, use tool 09316-60010 or equivalent
and a suitable hammer to tap in a new oil seal. Coat seal lip with suitable grease.

DRIVESHAFT INSTALLATION

1.

Install side gear shaft.

2.

Check installation of side gear shaft, as follows: 

a. Ensure side gear shaft will not come out by trying to pull it out completely by hand.
b. Push side gear shaft to the differential and measure distance between side gear shaft and transaxle case. Ensure distance between the two is

the same as the measurement taken before removing the side gear shaft.

3.

Using grease supplied in the boot kit, pack in grease to the side gear shaft. Pack .09 lb. of grease.

4.

Install driveshaft, as follows: 

a. On the left hand driveshaft, place new gaskets on the inboard joint. Align marks on the side gear shaft and inboard joint. Insert and finger

tighten attaching bolts and washers.

b. On the right hand driveshaft, pack in .09 lbs. of grease, supplied in the boot kit, to the center driveshaft. Place a new gasket on the inboard

joint. Install center driveshaft to the right hand driveshaft. Install washers and attaching bolts and temporarily tighten them. Install driveshaft
with center driveshaft to the transaxle through the bearing bracket. Install snap ring. Install and tighten the bearing lock bolt. Torque bolt to
24 ft. lbs.

5.

Install driveshaft to the axle hub. Install outboard joint side of the driveshaft to the axle hub.

6.

Install tie rod to the steering knuckle. Torque attaching bolt to 36 ft. lbs.

7.

Install steering knuckle to the lower arm. Torque attaching bolt to 83 ft. lbs.

8.

While depressing brake pedal, torque driveshaft attaching bolts to 48 ft. lbs.

9.

Install bearing locknut, locknut cap and a new cotter pin. Torque bearing locknut while depressing brake pedal, to 137 ft. lbs. Install cotter pin.

Front Driveshaft Assembly

1.

Temporarily install boots and new boot clamps. Before installing boot, wrap tape around the shaft splines to prevent damaging boot.

2.

Temporarily install the boot and a new clamp to the outboard joint and inboard joint.

3.

Assemble new inboard joint cover as follows: 

a. Apply seal packing to the inboard joint cover. Avoid applying excess amount to the surface area.
b. Align attaching bolt holes of cover with holes on the inboard joint, then insert attaching bolts.
c. Using a suitable hammer, tap rim of the inboard joint cover into place. Tap on cover at equally spaced points, alternating taps as not to distort

cover.

d. Use bolts, nuts and washers to keep assembly together. Tighten attaching bolts by hand.

4.

Assembly inboard joint as follows: 

a. Align marks placed during disassembly.
b. Using a brass bar and a suitable hammer, tap inboard joint onto the driveshaft. Ensure brass bar is touching the inner race and not the cage.
c. Install a new snap ring.

5.

Assemble outboard joint boot to outboard joint. Before assembling pack .26 lbs., of grease supplied with boot kit into boot assembly.

6.

Assemble inboard joint to inboard joint. Pack .20 lbs., of grease into inboard tulip and boot assemble.

7.

Assemble boot clamps to both boots. Ensure boot is on the shaft groove. Ensure that the boot is not stretched or contracted when the driveshaft is
at standard length. Driveshaft length should be 15.98 inches on Camry models or 15.77 inches on Celica models.

8.

Bend back band and lock boot into place.

9.

Check driveshaft to ensure that there is no play in the inboard joint and outboard joint assemblies. Ensure that the inboard joint slides smoothly in
the thrust direction.

Front Driveshaft Disassembly

    Check driveshaft to ensure that there is no play in the inboard and outboard joints. Ensure inboard joint slides smoothly in the thrust direction and that
there is no play in the axial direction. 

1.

Remove inboard joint boot clamps.

2.

Disassemble inboard joint as follows: 

a. Place alignment marks on the inboard joint and driveshaft. Do not use a punch to place alignment marks.
b. Remove snap ring.
c. Using tool 09726-0030 or equivalent, a socket wrench and a suitable press, remove inboard joint from driveshaft.
d. Remove attaching bolts, nuts and washers from inboard joint assembly.
e. Using a suitable screwdriver and a hammer, remove inboard joint from inboard joint cover. When removing, hold onto the inner and outer

race assemblies.

f.

Remove boots. Remove the boot from the inboard joint and outboard joint. Check inside and outside of the boots for damage.
