1.

Install a new O-ring to the right hand side gear shaft.

2.

Install side gear shaft. Ensure that a new snap ring is positioned securely in the side gear shaft groove. Using a brass bar and hammer, tap
in the driveshaft until shaft contacts the pinion shaft. Before installing the driveshaft, set snap ring with opening side facing downward.
Whether or not the side gear shaft is making contact with the pinion shaft can be determined by the sound or feeling when driving in the
driveshaft.

Check installation of the side gear. Ensure side gear shaft will not come out by trying to pull it completely out by hand. Push the side gear
shaft to the differential and measure distance between the side gear shaft and the transaxle case. Ensure the distance between the two is
the same as the measurement taken before removing the side gear shaft.

Pack in 0.09 lbs., of grease supplied from the boot kit to the inside gear shaft.

Install front driveshaft onto axle hub. Install the outboard joint side of the driveshaft to the axle hub. Push rear axle carrier toward the outside of
the vehicle and lift it up the inboard joint. Remove tape, bolts, nuts and washers from the inboard joint. Place a new gasket on the inboard joint.
Align marks on the side gear shaft and inboard joint. Finger tighten the attaching bolts securing driveshaft to the side gear shaft.

6.

Connect tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Install and torque the attaching nut to 36 ft. lbs. Install a new cotter pin. If the cotter pin hole does not
line up correctly, correct by tightening the nut by the smallest amount possible.

7.

Connect steering knuckle to lower arm. Torque attaching bolts to 94 ft. lbs.

8.

Tighten inboard joint attaching bolts while depressing brake pedal to 48 ft. lbs.

9.

As a reference point only, measure distance between the right hand and left hand side gear shaft. Measurement obtained should be 27.74 inches.

10.

Install bearing locknut, locknut cap and a new cotter pin. Torque locknut while depressing the brake pedal to 137 ft. lbs. 

Front Driveshaft, Replace

1.

Remove cotter pin, locknut cap and locknut.

2.

Remove engine under covers.

3.

Disconnect tie rod ends.

4.

Disconnect steering knuckle from lower arm.

5.

Loosen attaching nuts securing driveshaft to the differential side gear shaft. Place alignment marks on the driveshaft and side gear shaft.

6.

Push front axle carrier toward the outside of the vehicle and separate driveshaft from the side gear shaft. When moving the driveshaft, do not
compress the inboard boot. Remove joint end cover gasket from the driveshaft. Use bolts, nuts and washers to keep the inboard joint together.
Cover the inboard joint and side gear shaft.
