Reading a Toyota engine code

The number is the engine's place in its family, the letters are the family, and the suffix lists its features. In 3S-GTE, "3S" is the third S-family engine, G is a performance twin-cam head, T is turbocharged and E is multi-point fuel injection. An F instead of G means a standard twin-cam head.

Same car, different badge

• Lexus is Toyota's luxury division. The ES uses the Camry platform, the RX's Toyota counterpart is the Highlander, the LX is based on the Land Cruiser, and the GX is built alongside the 4Runner.
• Scion was Toyota's US and Canadian brand from 2003 to 2016.
• Corolla derivatives include the Geo and Chevrolet Prizm; the Matrix is the Pontiac Vibe.
