About the Celica
The Celica, from the Latin for "heavenly", was made from 1970 to 2006 over seven generations, all with four-cylinder engines. Like the Ford Mustang, it put a sporty body on a high-volume saloon's mechanicals. It switched from rear- to front-wheel drive in August 1985, and turbocharged all-wheel-drive versions were made from 1986 to 1999. The six-cylinder Celica Supra became the separate Supra in 1986.
