About the Tercel
The Tercel, made from 1978 to 1999, was Toyota's first front-wheel-drive car, and its early models were the only front-drive Toyotas with a lengthwise engine. Toyota designed the A-series engine for it. The name is an old word for a male falcon, which is smaller than the female, just as the Tercel was a little smaller than the Corolla.
