About the Highlander
The Highlander was among the first mid-size SUVs built on a car platform, the type later called crossovers. Launched in 2000 (called the Kluger in Japan and Australia), its first generation shared a platform with the Lexus RX and Toyota Harrier, and its hybrid system was almost identical to the Lexus RX 400h's.
What these manuals cover
- 2001–2007 (first generation): the 2.4-litre four (2AZ-FE), the 3.0 (1MZ-FE) and 3.3-litre (3MZ-FE) V6s, and the 3.3 Hybrid.
- 2008–2011 (second generation): the 3.5-litre V6 (2GR-FE) and the 2GR-FXE Hybrid.
Tip: the Lexus RX uses the same V6 engines and hybrid system.
