Wastegate Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

Air Cleaner Assembly (3S-GTE)

1. Remove air cleaner assembly from turbocharger.
2. Disconnect Wastegate Actuator pressure hose.
3. Using a turbocharger pressure gauge and pump, apply approximately 9.4 PSI (65 kPa) of pressure to the Wastegate Actuator.

CAUTION:DO NOT apply more than 11.8 PSI (81 kPa) of pressure to the Wastegate Actuator or damage to the actuator diaphragm could result.

4. Check that the actuator rod moves as pressure is applied.
5. If the actuator does not hold pressure, the diaphragm is bad.  Replace the Wastegate Actuator.
6. If excessive pressure is needed to move the rod, check for a bent actuator rod or sticking Wastegate Valve.
7. Remove pressure gauge from Wastegate Actuator.
8. Reinstall the air cleaner to the turbocharger.
