Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

1.

Remove engine as outlined under Engine.

2.

On models with manual transmission, remove clutch as outlined under Clutch. After removing clutch, remove flywheel.

3.

Using a suitable tool pry out seal, using care not to damage crankshaft or seal housing.

4.

Lubricate lips of new seal, then using seal installer tool No. 09223-15030, or equivalent, drive new seal into place.

5.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque flywheel bolts to 19 ft. lb. in several stages in pattern shown in  Fig. 25, then tighten an additional 90° using
this pattern. Tighten fasteners to specifications.
