Align claws of new claw washer with rack grooves, then install rack ends and torque to 61 ft. lbs. Stake claw washers into position.

9.

Install rack boots, clamps and clips, then using pliers, pinch clamps and bend upward, ensuring that open ends face outward. The left and right
side rack boots are of different lengths. Use care to avoid interchanging, since damage to boot may result.

10.

Install tie rod ends to rack ends, aligning marks made during disassembly, then torque clamp bolts to 16 ft. lbs.

Disassembly

1.

Connect a suitable holding fixture to gear housing, then place fixture in a suitable vise, Fig. 33.

2.

Remove right and left turn pressure tubes, using tool No. 09633-00020.
