Toothed belt tension, adjust (from MY '93) > < Control times, check

 

Toothed Belt Tension, Check (as of MY '93)  

Notice: 

This operation refers to run-in toothed belts only. For installation of a new toothed belt - see operation "Toothed Belt Tension, Adjust". Check on cold engine - room temperature.  

Object Number: 616191  Size: DEFAULT  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove front toothed belt cover - see operation "Front Toothed Belt Cover, Remove and Install". Remove torsional vibration damper - counterhold at fastening bolt of toothed belt drive gear.  

Object Number: 616198  Size: DEFAULT  Adjust   

At fastening bolt of toothed belt drive gear, set crankshaft in engine rotation direction to mark (3). At the same time, notches on camshaft pulleys must align with marks (1) on cylinder head cover. Fix camshaft pulley with KM-853 (2). Turn crankshaft slowly and smoothly.

Object Number: 616196  Size: DEFAULT  Inspect   

Check installation position of coolant pump - adjust if necessary. Lug (2) on coolant pump must align with counterpart (1) on cylinder block.  

Option 1:  

The toothed belt tension is correctly adjusted when the pointer (4) of the toothed belt tension roller is approx. 4 mm/0.16 in to the left of the generator belt pulley (3).  

Option 2:  

The toothed belt is correctly adjusted when pointer (6) on the toothed belt is aligned with the "USED" mark (5).  

If toothed belt tension is not correctly adjusted see "Adjusting toothed belt tension" service instructions (from MY '93)".

Object Number: 616192  Size: DEFAULT  Install, Connect   

Install front toothed belt cover - see operation "Front Toothed Belt Cover, Remove and Install".  

Attach torsional vibration damper to toothed belt drive gear - counterhold at fastening bolt of toothed belt drive gear - 20 Nm/15 lbf. ft.
